Aparajita Sarma


‘Art knows no boundaries, no limitations. I think that for a person who creates, the sky is the limit’.

Aparajita Sarma, a youth professional in Bharatanatyam, has been learning the art form from her mother, Guru Smt Kanaka Sudhakar, from the age of 7 in Nrityabharati, academy for Bharatanatyam, Delhi. Endowed with an innate sense of rhythm and ardent love for the art form, natural grace and flexible body, Aparajita lives for dance. Aparajita Sarma is a performer, teacher, choreographer and works with the SUNAINA as their Manager and PRO. But above all she is a constant learner of the various dance forms of the world.

Achievements & Performances 

Empanelled with the ICCR as Dance Performer & Teacher, Graded artiste of Doordarshan, Alankar (M.A) in Bharatanatyam from the Akhila Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya, Miraj, Maharashtra, and Senior Scholarship holder from Sahitya Kala Parishad, Aparajita has served as a senior faculty member at Nrityabharati, Academy for Classical dance and Music where she has also participated and performed in many dance performances. Her work and efforts have been appreciated by noted organizations for which she has been awarded with titles, ‘Nritya Nivedita’, ‘Kala Vaibhavi’ and ‘Nritya Bhushan’.

 Aparajita has presented solo and group performances at many prestigious cultural platforms like Bali, Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, Bhavalaya, Sultunate of Oman, Natyanjali festivals in Tiruvarur, Chidambaram, Pandanallur, Kumbakonam, Tirunallar, Tanjavur and Nagapattinam, Delhi Tamil Sangam, India International Centre, Nritya Pratibha Festival organized by Sangeet Natak academy in Dehradun, India Habitat center, Triveni Kala Sangam, India,  Epicenter, Sai Nrityotsav, Bangalore, Doordarshan Bangalore, India theatre Olympiad,  Cuttack, Akhila Bharatiya Sankrutik Sangh Pune, Delhi International Arts festival, Cultural Zonal festival, Shimla, Navrathiri festival, Madurai and many more. As a graded artiste of Doordarshan she has performed for for the National TV several times. 

She has performed in special choreographies like Krishna Ganga, Bharatnatyam on the Hindustani music of Benaras Gharana, Confluence in which she performed Bharatanatyam merging with Manipuri, Kathak and contemporary, Baroque dance where she worked with baroque dancers of Switzerland, Kuchipudi-Bharatantyam jugalbandhi etc. She has played the leading role in dance ballets like Krishna Leela Taringini, Rani of Jhansi, Navarasanayaki, Nasha hi Nasha etc. Aparajita was a part of Bharatiya Kala Kendra ballet productions like Ramayana, Shri Krishna and karna. As a member of teamwork productions, Aparajita has widely performed in European countries, China, Japan, Russia and South Africa. She has also presented thematic contemporary work for ‘We Can end all violence against women’ in Bhopal

 Teacher & Choreographer

Aparajita has been teaching the divine art of Bharatanatyam since she was 14 at Nrityabharati under the guidance of her Guru & mother, Smt Kanaka Sudhakar. Today she is the senior most teacher at Nrityabharati.  Aparajita has conducted many seminar & workshops for various academic schools, cultural organizations like Sahitya Kala Parishad to spread awareness on Bharatanatyam. As an empanelled member of ICCR, Aparajita worked with the embassy of India in Bali, Indonesia and promoted the art form of Bharatanatyam by training students from various nationalities for over an year. 

Research Work 

Aparajita researched on the traditional dances of Bali and their historic connection with the Indian Classical Dances, after training with the Guru Ni Ketut Arini in Bali. She has also conducted seminars on the same topic and si further researching on this topic.
