Therapeutic Aspects of Indian Classical Dance:
Kanaka Sudhakar with the help of her father-in-law (now late) Dr. L. Ramachandran- a Scientist and a Nature Cure Practitioner-conducted an extensive research on the Benefits and Therapeutic Aspects of Indian Classical Dances especially on the development of the child. This research was performed on the muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory and the psychological systems of the body. Kanaka Sudhakar continued her studies on the benefits Yoga and Acupressure, meeting several doctors and practitioners of nature cure, yoga, acupuncture and alternate medicines. Her book entitled ‘Therapeutic Aspects of Indian Classical Dances’ was published by Sterling Publishers and released by Sahitya Kala Parishad in 1994 at the Triveni Kala Sangam. Since then she has given innumerable lecture demonstrations under the banner of SUNAINA at various organizations like IGNCA, India International centre, Triveni Kala Sangam for Sahitya Kala Parishad, Blue Bells School, St Cecilia School, India Habitat Centre, Narada Gana Sabha, Madras, and The School for Performing Arts under the University of Hyderabad etc. Kanaka Sudhakar ha been awarded a fellowship by the HRD. Extensive research has been done taking 18 children as a control group and an experimental group which took 2 years to complete. Kanaka Sudhakar as found a new movement system ‘Yogic Aerobics’ which seeks to increase the fitness levels of all age groups and specifically targets women in their middle age. Kala Khoj also presented a TV serial to promote the Therapeutic advantages of the Indian Classical Dances amongst the masses.
